Learn about the diet after Laporoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass

Shortly after your surgery, you will begin your first sips of clear liquids. You will stay on low-calorie clear liquids for 2 more days. These fluids include broth, sugar-free gelatin, decaffeinated tea, diluted apple juice, water and flavored beverages such as Crystal Light or Diet Snapple. You will be reminded to sip your fluids slowly as your new stomach structure heals.

On your third day post-surgery, you will follow our nutritionist’s instructions for progressing to pureed foods, such as soft eggs, hot cereal, pureed meats and vegetables, pureed fruit and yogurt. You will be on this diet for just a few days, and then you will begin soft, regular-textured foods. A food plan will be provided, with 3 small meals, plus between-meal supplementation with a calcium- and protein-rich drink such as Carnation Instant Breakfast. You will be advised to take a multivitamin/mineral supplement daily.
